Poll: Israelis Hold US, Trump Administration in High Esteem

According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, 71% of Israelis have confidence that US President Donald Trump will “do the right thing regarding world affairs,” the second-highest rate in the world behind the Philippines, and significantly above the median of 29% across 32 countries. By comparison, 85% of Germans, 78% of French and 71% of Canadians expressed no confidence in the US leader’s ability to steer the global ship. More generally, 83% of Israelis expressed a positive opinion of the US (although only 37% Israeli Arabs hold this view), the highest rating of any nation in the survey. In Canada and the United Kingdom, by contrast, barely half the respondents conveyed favorable views of the US, while only 36% did in Mexico, and 29% in Russia. In Lebanon and Turkey, the two other Middle Eastern countries polled, 39% and 20% of the respondents, respectively, said they viewed the US favorably. This was also true for 33% of the public in the North African nation of Tunisia. Meanwhile,77% of South Koreans, 68% of Japanese and 60% of Indians view the US positively.
