President Tells UN: Peace Advanced by Recognizing “Obvious Facts”

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump rejected criticism of his decision to move the American Embassy to Jerusalem, asserting that the search for peace is helped, not harmed, by recognizing “obvious facts” – a policy he’s coined as “principled realism.” He adamantly declared that his administration will not be held to “old dogma” that has failed repeatedly or the suggestions of “so-called experts who have been proven wrong time and time again.” The American leader declared that Iran would not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons as long as it advocates the destruction of Israel and the United States. He declared, “We cannot allow the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism to possess the planet’s most dangerous weapons.” Reaction to the President’s speech largely followed party lines domestically and in Israel, where Prime Minister Netanyahu is often seen to be mimicking Trump policies. French President Emmanuel Macron, who frequently avers affection and friendship for the Jewish state, once again tore into President Trump, accusing him of “unilateral initiatives” and “trampling on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”
