President Trump Asks “How Can Jews Be Democrats?”
Speaking at a Mar-a-Largo fundraising dinner for the Republican National Committee, President Trump startled the crowd when he asked “How can Jews be Democrats?” After all, he averred, “The Democrats hate Jewish people.” He also boasted that he would take “98% of the vote” if he ran for prime minister in Israel, which is scheduled to hold a national election on April 9. The president’s comments were reported by Axios, which claims its reporting is based on multiple attendees at the event. President Trump’s bravura on issues relating to Israel included taking bows for having moved the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which he recognized as Israel’s capital. The taunting of Democrats began with the president’s condemnation of alleged anti-Semitic statements by freshman Congressmen Ilhan Omar, which have triggered outrage among many but are being received by a growing number of younger voters.
