President Trump Declares “Lot of Progress” after Peace Envoys’ Trip

President Donald Trump has weighed-in on his peace envoys’ just-concluded trip to the Middle East claiming the multi-nation visits resulted in a “lot of progress.” While his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt completed their mission for the moment, the president himself continued focusing on the Middle East as he hosted Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Queen Rania at the White House. The king had just met with the Trump team back home before flying to Washington for what was described as a “working visit.” Despite the president’s optimism, he was unwilling to reveal any details of the forthcoming proposal or say when the long-awaited effort would be unveiled. What is expected is a significant conceptual reworking of traditional Mideast peace plans like the Road Map or the “Kerry-go-Round,” dealing head-on with the most significant issues between Israel and the Palestinians rather than deferring the crossing of red lines until “later.”
