Protests Continue throughout Lebanon

Lebanese citizens throughout the country are in the streets protesting the government for the tenth consecutive day on Sunday. Reports from Beirut tell of demonstrators laying down in roadways blocking traffic as the army struggled to remove the protesters. Although there were reports of scuffles, the protests seem to have remained largely peaceful. But the effects of the action are already being felt. For more than a week, banks have been closed along with many businesses and schools. The protests broke out in response to announcements of new taxes, many of which are attached to the use of social media. The Associated Press is reporting that Sheikh Hasan Nasrallah has said his Iranian-supported organization is one of the protesters’ targets.
