Putin and Erdogan Create Syrian Peace Plan

Two leaders more frequently being called “peas in a pod” are claiming they have come up with a peace plan to end fighting in Syria. Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan are behind the initiative with Erdogan asserting that his opposition to Syrian President Al-Assad remaining in power stands. Nevertheless, in Ankara on Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters that talks will continue in the Khazakh capitol of Astana. He described to drafts that together form the agreement: one political and one to create a ceasefire. The Reuters news agency reported the possibility that three zones of regional power might be carved out of what is left of Syria. The talks will be at the undersecretary level, apparently in part to remove the possibility of Assad attending.
