Anti-regime rebels in Syria on Wednesday drew within 6 miles of the military airport at Hama according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The facility is where the Assad regime makes and deploys its infamous barrel bombs, masses of explosives placed inside barrels and dropped from aircraft onto residential areas controlled by the rebels. The bombs, declared to be illegal, have accounted for hundreds of deaths. A fierce battle for the airport is shaping up as the regime sends reinforcements to Hama. On the Iraqi border, a local trip struck back at the Islamist ISIS group after it captured and killed some of its members. ISIS was granted access to the area controlled by the tribe under condition that it not attack its members. After ISIS reneged, killing several, the trip retaliated.
