Report: Iran Refusing to Cooperate with UN Nuclear Watchdog

Iran is reportedly refusing to cooperate with a United Nations investigation into its alleged storage of nuclear equipment and radioactive material. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Islamic Republic has stonewalled efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency to gather information about a now-dismantled warehouse in Tehran that held evidence of Iran’s past drive to develop nuclear weapons. In May of last year, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced the existence of the facility in describing a Mossad operation that smuggled out a massive cache of secret documents detailing Iran’s pursuit of nuclear arms. The atomic archive apparently proved that Tehran had created a program – “Project Amad” – geared toward developing nuclear weapons. Specifically, the plan was to “design, produce and test five warheads, each with [a] 10-kiloton TNT yield for integration on a missile,” according to text uncovered in one of the retrieved files. Jerusalem has accused the IAEA of “dragging its feet” and not taking the substance of documents stolen by the Israeli spy agency seriously enough.
