The British newspaper, The Guardian, has reported that President Obama will play off Israel’s fear of an Iranian nuclear threat and trade stronger support against Iranian nukes for movement on the settlement issue, in order to jump start the Israeli-Palestinian track. Obama is expected to reveal details of his plan soon, most likely during the opening sessions of the United Nations General Assembly or the next meeting of the G20, both due in late September. New sanctions on Iran’s oil and gas industry will be the first move in return for Israel imposing a temporary freeze on construction in communities located on land acquired in the 1967 war,The Guardian reported. The Obama plan is expected to be the primary topic of discussion when Netanyahu meets American Mideast envoy George Mitchell in London on Wednesday.
