Reports from Yemen indicate that longtime leader President Ali Abdullah Saleh will address the nation within the next 48 hours. There has been uncertainty over whether Saleh, whose ouster is the goal of ongoing street demonstrations, would return from Saudi Arabia where he is being treated for wounds sustained in a rocket attack on his presidential palace. Several times, a deal for Saleh’s departure that was brokered by the Gulf States, failed at the last minute. Although the Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadiwas elevated to head-of-state during Saleh’s absence, it was in a caretaker role and there has been no official move to make any permanent arrangements while the president was incapacitated.
