“Respect Ramadan, No Bikinis”

A group of young Moroccan surfers have launched a campaign asking foreign tourists not to wear bikinis on the beach during the holy month of Ramadan which began last week. The group posted large signs on the beach saying “Respect Ramadan, no bikinis.” During the month of Ramadan, many Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, pray and give charity. While some in Morocco supported the campaign others thought it might have a negative effect on tourism, one of the mainstays of the economy.
