Rice Threatens New Anti-Syria Sanctions

The United States Department of State is threatening Syria with an additional round of sanctions. Several economic measures were imposed in 2004 following the assassination of ex-Lebanese premier Rafiq Al-Hariri. The State Department says it has several options at its disposal, but will not detail them at this stage. The U.S. is insisting Syria end what Washington sees as its support for terrorists. Many terror groups are headquartered in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the U.S. maintains Syria continues to offer financial and tactical support to the Lebanese-based Hizbullah. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is urging more states to impose sanctions against Damascus.
