Rights Issues Abound in President Erdogan’s Turkey

Since former Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan became President Erdogan, Turkish citizens have been losing their rights according to Human Rights Watch. The New York-based rights group says Erdogan has been particularly hard on press freedoms and judicial independence since assuming his new office in August. In a report issued on Monday, HRW said, “Turkey is undergoing a worrying rollback of human rights…of increasing intolerance of political opposition, public protest and critical media.” More than 5,300 people have been jailed for protesting against the government while police charged with undue violence have done so with impunity.
