Russia and Iran Moving Closer, Pushed by Syrian Alliance

Russian Prime Minister Medvedev on Monday hosted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Moscow as the alliance that is troublesome to the United States and the West continues to warm. Driven together by the Syrian civil war where both nations are supporting incumbent President Bashar Al-Assad, the growing alliance spells trouble to the US. Since the nuclear deal brokered by the Obama administration that saw the lifting of numerous sanctions on Iran, the Russians have not surprisingly opened its arms industry to Tehran’s buyers, and Moscow is investing in the Iranian energy industries. Facing re-election in May, Rouhani needs the energy deal he hopes to sign with Russia to shore up his campaign.
