Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told visiting Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas on Monday that "all political forces" [in the P.A.] must unify. In a prepared statement, Lavrov said, "This will create the right conditions for the renewal of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process… the aim of which will be the creation of a sovereign, viable and unified Palestinian state." Lavrov threw Russian support in the power struggle between Fatah and Hamas behind ‘Abbas/Fatah, calling ‘Abbas, "the lawful leader of all Palestinians." ‘Abbas is scheduled to meet with President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
