Saddam Deputy Tariq Aziz Murder Trial to Begin in Iraq

The murder trial of former Saddam Hussein deputy Tariq Aziz is set to get under way in Baghdad before the same judge who sentenced Saddam to death. Aziz, perhaps the most recognizable to the international community of Saddam’s entourage, is accused of involvement in the executions of at least 40 Baghdad merchants who were tried in 1992 for raising prices during a time when international sanctions were in effect against Iraq. Saddam Hussein was hanged in December 2006.
