Satellite Images Apparently Back Israeli Allegations Of New Iranian Missile Plant In Syria

New satellite images seemingly confirm Israel’s assertion that Iran is constructing a facility to manufacture precision-guided missiles in northwest Syria. The plant near the city of Safita allegedly is being built by the Revolutionary Guard Corps in coordination with the Assad regime and Iranian terror proxy Hizbullah. “The construction patterns, the compound’s location and the signs of activity…increase the probability that this is a missiles manufacturing site,” ImageSat International wrote in a report interpreting the new pictures. The company added that operations at the site correspond with those undertaken at military outposts, and that nearby tracks are comparable to those made by vehicles used to launch surface-to-surface missiles. Israel repeatedly has vowed to prevent Tehran from entrenching itself in Syria and, to this end, has conducted thousands of cross-border strikes on Iranian assets and targeting convoys of sophisticated arms destined for Hizbullah in neighboring Lebanon. According to Israeli media, Iran has been able to procure materials for the construction of the facility by circumventing international sanctions through the establishment of various straw companies via Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center, a government agency that manufactures weapons—purportedly including non-conventional ones—and whose structures have in the past been destroyed by Israel.
