Saudi Arabia Sends Lebanese Army of $3Billion French Shopping Spree

The Lebanese army has $3 billion to spend on French arms courtesy of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah. President Michel Sleiman said on Sunday that the monarch’s grant for the army is the largest in its history. Word of the grant came as French President Francois Hollande was visiting the Saudi king. Hollande assured the king that his nation is “ready to meet any requests” from Lebanon. Lebanon has been suffering governmental gridlock for the past nine months, unable to form a unity government following the resignation of the Najib Mikati. Division between supporters and opponents of Syrian neighbor President Bashar Al-Assad is tearing at the country apart, fomenting violence and unrest. Meanwhile, on Monday the Lebanese army found the four rocket launchers used in the Sunday attack on Israel. Rockets landed inside the Jewish state causing no injuries or damage, but triggered an Israeli response in the form of artillery rounds being sent toward the source of fire. Lebanese sources claim 32 shells were fired into Lebanon.
