Saudi Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who is rapidly becoming the Middle East’s new superstar, has vowed to “wipe out terrorism.” Hosting representatives from 40 nations in Riyadh on Sunday, the prince presided over the inaugural meeting of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition. Observers don’t doubt that the 41-nation alliance is also intended to send a message to Tehran, which has its fingerprints on each of the several major conflicts in the region and which is the Saudi opponent for the title of most powerful nation in the region. The prince’s new alliance is distinctly a military in nature, and will be headed by a Pakistani general.
