U.S. President George W. Bush received a phone call from Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah on Saturday, asking for help in reining-in Israel. The White House said only that the two leaders had discussed “the Middle East,” but the Saudi news agency elaborated, saying that King Abdullah had called for the international community to take action to halt Israel’s Gaza campaign. According to the SPA agency, Abdullah accused Israel of “blockade, occupation and torture against the Palestinian people all over the Occupied Territories." King Abdullah hosted Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas on the same day in Riyadh.
