Saudi Arabia‘s King Abdullah has invited representatives of Fatah and Hamas to Mecca in a bid to end the internecine warfare that is raging in the Gaza Strip. Observers warn that a full-scale civil war is becoming more likely as fighters from both factions continue to battle in the streets. Thirty have died during the past several days, 60 during the past month, and each side has taken tens of hostages from the opposite faction. Two Hamas members were killed in fighting Sunday night. The Saudi Press Agency reports that King Abdullah urged both sides to "hold an emergency meeting in Mecca to discuss the contentious matters without any intervention from outside.”
