Saudi King’s Call for Women to Vote Won’t Save Woman Driver from Lashes

Days after Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah said he’ll allow women to vote in municipal elections and run for office, a woman has been sentenced to receive ten lashes for driving. It’s illegal for women to drive in the kingdom. The unidentified woman was caught behind the wheel in Jedda in July. Women have been flagrantly breaking the ban on driving in order to call attention to their plight.
