Saudi, Turkish Prosecutors Meet as Part of Turks’ Khashaggi Investigation

Following Friday’s examination of Turkish employees of the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul by Turkish prosecutors and members of the terrorism and organized crime bureau, and following the search of a forest on the outskirts of Istanbul where automobile tracks leading from the Saudi Consulate on the day Saudi journalist Jamal Khashaggi was believed to have been killed led investigators, the Turkish and Saudi prosecutors met in Istanbul on Monday to exchange evidence and plan future cooperation in what is being called a joint investigation. The meeting lasted an hour and a quarter and was believed to have covered a number of issues besides the exchange of evidence. The Saudis have said eighteen suspects have been taken into custody, but the two nations have not agreed to allow the Turkish courts to try them as is being demanded in Ankara. The Turkish version of events so far is that a 15-man team was tasked with killing Khashaggi and sent to Istanbul for that purpose. Although the Saudi version has gone through a number of changes. Riyadh now admits the killing was premeditated but has not accepted all of the Turkish findings.
