Saudi law enforcement officials meted out sentences of 30 lashes each for 20 Saudi youth accused of looting in the city of Khobar. Stores and restaurants were trashed and looted on September 23rd, the Saudi national holiday, prompted by sectarian tensions. One issue of dissent is the co-educational status of the new King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.
