Saudis Send Royal Siblings to London and Washington for Diplomacy and Damage Control

The Saudis apparently hope enough time has passed since the Jamal Khashoggi murder to return ambassadors to the kingdom’s London and Washington embassies and move past the threats and demands related to the Khashoggi killing. King Salman has selected a brother and sister team to probe the waters and do whatever damage control remains within their abilities to deliver. Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, many believing with – minimally – a green light from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who until the brouhaha surrounding Khashoggi’s death was on a clear track to succeed the king. But an unexpected amount of angst poured out of the incident, leaving Western lawmakers calling for cessations of dealings with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia until the case is shut and the once-popular “MBS” as he’s known around the world, is punished. The non-Arab world has virtually turned its back on the Saudi effort to defeat the Shiite Iranian terror proxy Houthis, a development that prompted a senior Yemeni official to tell The Media Line that his nation is being punished for the Khashoggi killing. Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan has left for Washington while her brother, Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan, has presented his credentials to the Queen in London. While the Prince has diplomatic experience in Germany, his sister has had no preparation for the posting, which could prove to be contentious.
