Saudis Taunt Tehran for Long History of Blaming “Foreign Agents” for Domestic Problems

Saudi Arabia took a shot at nemesis Iran through the media on Wednesday, focusing on charges that Tehran has a long-standing history of pointing the fingers of blame at so-called “foreign agents” for domestic ills that plague the state. In an analysis published on the Arab News website, Harvard-educated Majid Rafizadeh rebutted the Ayatollah Khamenei’s recent tweets in which he placed Iran’s core problems at the feet of foreign agents. He admonished the Iranian leadership, arguing that “by blaming foreign powers, the regime avoids taking any responsibility and accountability.” Although foreign elements are continually blamed, organizers of the street demonstration have told The Media Line that young Iranians seeking a non-violent regime change are, in fact, responsible; and not foreign elements.  Street demonstrations began on December 28, ostensibly over economic issues. During the course of the protests, 21 people died and 3,700 were arrested.
