Security Concerns Come First as Passover is Celebrated

Following six months of almost daily attempts by Palestinians to stage terror attacks against Jewish targets, security forces are trying to ensure a peaceful Passover holiday in Jerusalem and throughout the nation. In Jerusalem’s Old City, tension still runs high as Palestinians, accusing Israel of seeking to obliterate Islamic character from the area, called out epithets at Jews visiting the Temple Mount Sunday morning. Seven Jewish visitors to the area were detained by police and removed from the site for allegedly violating the prohibition banning non-Muslims from prayer. Arabs believed to be potential rioters were denied access to the area, known to Muslims as Haram Al-Sharif. On the night of Passover when Jews worldwide participate in the religious meal known as the “Seder,” police intercepted a total of ten Jews who were on their way to sacrifice goats as was done in the time of the temple. At least four goats were confiscated. An Egyptian airliner caused a stir on Saturday morning when it entered Israeli airspace without going through proper procedures. Jet fighters were scrambled and escorted the Air Sinai commercial craft to Ben Gurion International Airport where it was scheduled to land.
