Security Council Unanimous in Approving Sanctions Against Al-Qaddafi

The United Nations Security Council unanimously voted in favor of sanctions to be applied against Libyan strongman Mu’amar Al-Qaddafi and his close associates early Sunday morning. Al-Qaddafi and his entourage are now forbidden to travel to member nations, all of which will be seizing any assets belonging to those named in the resolution. The issue of whether to send the case to The International Court of Justice at The Hague held up passage of the resolution, but the decision to do so was made after it was endorsed by the Libyan U.N. delegation. The United Nations’ estimate of casualties in the Libyan unrest stands at more than 1,000 killed by Al-Qaddafi’s forces.
