Seven Arrested In Vehicle Ramming Attack in London

British police arrested seven people in London and Birmingham after a vehicle ramming attack that killed three people, and wounded dozens. The attacker was shot dead after he stabbed and killed a British police officer. British MP’s said they would return to work on Thursday, a day after the attacker ran down several pedestrians on nearby Westminster Bridge. He then charged at a policeman at the parliament gates stabbing him to death with a large knife. It was the deadliest attack in England since 2005, and came on the anniversary of an Islamic State attack at the Brussels airport that killed 32 people. There was no immediate claim of responsibility although Islamic State has called for vehicle attacks. Experts say they are cheap, easy to organize and hard to prevent. Attackers can act alone and do not need to obtain explosives. Trucks were used last year in attacks in crowds in Nice last July, when a truck killed 86 people, and in a Berlin Christmas market attack that killed 12. Vehicles have also been used in several attacks in Israel, most recently when a Palestinian drove his truck into a group of Israeli soldiers in January, killing four. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said then that the attack was inspired by Islamic State. Terrorism experts say that vehicle attacks can cause a lot more deaths than with a knife.
