The sexual abuse allegations against Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s English language spokesman David Keyes is proving difficult to contain. While accusations by as many as 15 women have forced Keyes out of the PM’s office, sights are now set on Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, who has for years been Netanyahu’s closest confidant and by the accounts of many pundits, perhaps Israel’s most effective foreign envoy posted to Israel’s most important ally. Dermer has admitted that as early as 2016 he was warned about Keyes’ behavior toward women and the serious issues that followed him from job to job. The cautions were from as credible as source as New York Times columnist Bret Stephens, who was then with the Wall Street Journal. Calls are being heard for Dermer to resign because he failed to report the warnings to the prime minister or to legal authorities, a shortcoming he claimed was because he did not see any criminal behavior in what he was told: a response many, especially women’s rights groups, find to be incredulous.
