All Sides Await Trump Peace Proposals

Following speeches before the UN by President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the next installment of Mideast Peace Process – Trump Version awaits the plan being drawn-up by Team Trump that should be delivered, according to differing reports of what was said to Abbas, within one to three months. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, the PA chief repeated much of his most recent stump speech including his preference for the so-called “two-state” solution. But rather than continuing what has become pro forma for his surrogates to raise the specter of a “one-state” alternative, Abbas himself raised that possibility as the “reality” if the world allows Israel to continue to chart the course the Palestinians charge is apartheid. Reports from New York speak of an impassioned promise by President Trump to conclude the “ultimate deal,” peace between Israel and the Palestinians. But while senior Palestinian officials compliment the efforts by TeamTrump, including Jared Kushner, Jason Greenblatt and Dina Powell, Palestinian leaders have expressed to The Media Line their skepticism at America’s ability to play the honest broker given the close personal ties between the US negotiators and Israel. Statements from senior officials have sought to temper the cynicism, asserting that anyone can make peace if they are so disposed.
