Solar-Powered Drive-in In Aqaba

The sleepy Jordanian town of Aqaba on the Red Sea will soon boast a new entertainment complex featuring a drive-in movie theater powered by solar energy. The complex is being developed by the state-run Aqaba Develoment Corporation (ADC) and will have 50 shops and three movie theaters. ADC spokesman Khalil Farrayeh told The Jordan Times that the use of solar power makes the cost of running the facility much cheaper, and that the pen air movie theater can fit 360 cars. It is meant for families and will show movies that are appropriate for everyone in the family. Aqaba is about two and a half hours south of Jordan’s most famous tourist attraction, the Nabatean-era city of Petra, considered one of the seven new wonders of the world.
