Somalia Counts its Dead, Once More

Two more days of fighting in Somalia have left at least 10 people dead and 50 wounded in the capital, Mogadishu. Machine guns and RPGs are the order of the day, leaving residents no choices other than to barricade themselves in their homes or flee the city. Tens of thousands of locals are reported to have quit Mogadishu over the last month. A considerable number of the new refugees are trying to cross the waters to the nearby Yemen, but they run risks by boarding rickety boats run by crews that often force them to jump ship at knifepoint. The fighting in Mogadishu is between government forces with the support of Ethiopian troops and a resurgent Islamist force. Various warlords are also beginning to flex their muscles once again.
