Spanish Defense Minister To Lebanon After Troops Killed Near Israeli Border

Spanish Defense Minister Jose Antonio Alonso paid a visit to his nation’s troops participating in the United Nations peacekeeping mission one day after three Spanish soldiers were among six UNIFIL troops killed by a roadside bomb four miles north of Israel. The other three victims were Colombian. No group has taken responsibility for the attack, which Alonso called "premeditated." Hizbullah has called it "dangerous" and said the attack undermined the stability of south Lebanon. There have been threats made against UNIFIL forces by the Fatah Al-Islam group that has been battling the Lebanese army near Tripoli for the past five weeks. Two weeks ago, two Katyusha rockets were fired from south Lebanon into Israel and again no claim of responsibility was made.
