One day after a conference of foreign ministers meeting in Rome to find a solution to the Israel-Hizbullah conflict broke up without any tangible result, different versions of what the Italian summit means are floating about. Israel’s Justice Minister Haim Ramon told reporters on Wednesday that the parley constituted an "authorization to continue our operations until Hizbullah is no longer present in southern Lebanon." U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spun the conference as a success because “it identified the elements that would eventually make up a sustainable ceasefire." Rice admitted that most countries wanted an immediate cease-fire, and only "several did not."
