State of the Union Critiqued in Tehran

Official Iranian media outlets reacted angrily to United States President George W. Bush’s State of the Union address on Monday. Bush stressed that Iran was “developing ballistic missiles of increasing range,” and that “It continues to develop its capabilities to enrich uranium which could be used to create a nuclear weapon.” PRESS TV headlined Bush’s speech “Bush rhetoric echoes anti-Iran hysteria,” while the official Al-Alam TV spoke of “the unpopular president [who] vowed to ‘confront’ Iran if necessary to protect what he called U.S. troops or Washington’s vital interests in the Persian Gulf.”
