Sudan Attack Carried Out By Drones: Sunday Times

More information about the January attack on an arms convoy in Sudan has been published in the London-based Sunday Times. According to the paper, Israel used unmanned Hermes 405 drone aircraft to carry out the mission. The Times attributes its information to Israeli security officials, although Israel has neither confirmed nor denied the attack which first came to light when the CBS network reported that a Sudanese government minister charged the United States with attacking the convoy and killing 39 people but that it was an Israeli mission. The New York Times then obtained confirmation of the strike from American officials, as well as verification that it was carried out by Israel. Another piece of the story added by the Sunday Times report was the identification of the cargo as Fajr-3 rockets – a weapon that could have been smuggled in pieces and could reach Tel Aviv, Israel’s largest city when fired from the Gaza Strip. The attack on the convoy occurred during the 22-day battle between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip. A spokesman for the Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Friday denied that there was any proof that Israel carried out the raid, but said that the Jewish state was the prime suspect. ABC news is reporting that Israel has struck in Sudan at least three times since January.
