The spiraling violence in Iraq is showing no sign of abating as 14 members of the Iraqi security forces died in suicide bombings overnight Wednesday, raising the death toll to 35 in just two days. The surge in violence is the worst since 2008, with more than 5,400 having been killed during 2013. During October, 30 suicide bombers successfully detonated their explosive packs, while a number of others were prevented from doing so by security personnel. Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki is in Washington where he is asking for American military aid to fight those opposing the regime and the growing lawlessness that followed the US military pullout from Iraq.
