A day after Sunnis targeted one of Shi’a Islam’s holiest sites reports from Iraq suggest Shi’ites have set fire to three Sunni mosques just south of Baghdad. Iraq’s government imposed a three-day curfew throughout the country after the initial attack on the Shi’ite Al-Asqariyya Mosque in Samara. A similar attack on the mosque 16 months ago led to a major upsurge in sectarian violence. Leaders on both sides are urging calm. Al-Asqariyya is believed to be the final resting place of the 10th and 11th imams, descendants of Muhammad.
