Syrian Clashes Take At Least 50 Lives

At least 50 Syrians were killed on Saturday in clashes between protestors and security forces, marking one of the worst days of carnage since the rebellion against the rule of President Bashar Al-Assad broke out last March. Opposition groups said 21 civilians were killed as tanks shelled an historic district in the city of Homs. The government said 20 soldiers were killed in the city while 10 members of the security forces died in an ambush in Idlib province. In an interview with Britain’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper, Al-Assad warned that Syria would turn into “another Afghanistan” if the West intervened in his country. "Syria is the hub now in this region. It is the fault line, and if you play with the ground you will cause an earthquake," he said.
