Syrian Cleric Alleged to be Recruiter of Iraqi Fighters, Gunned Down in Aleppo

A Syrian cleric who is believed to have been a recruiter of anti-government and anti-coalition fighters in Iraq has been gunned down in Aleppo. Sheikh Mahmoud Abu Al-Qaqaa was killed as he left his mosque following Friday morning prayers. The gunman was apprehended by onlookers after attempting to flee. Al-Qaqaa was described as a charismatic Sunni who attracted a following of thousands of radical Islamists. He was known for his fiery anti-American sermons.
