Syrian Defectors Arrested in Jordan, Charged with Spying for Al-Asad Regime

Jordanian security forces have arrested 10 supposed defectors from the Syrian army on charges that they were spying for Bashar Al-Asad regime. A statement from the Public Security Department said the group was seized in the city of Mafraq, a short distance from the capital Amman. Out of approximately 400 such spies that have been detained since the unrest in Syria began a year ago, one-quarter have been sent back to Damascus and the others placed in a facility for defectors on a Mafraq army base. It is estimated that about 100,000 Syrians have fled to Jordan.
