Syrian Drone Evades Patriot Missile and Leaves Israeli Airspace Unscathed

The Syrian military chanced a major provocation with Israel on Sunday when it launched a drone into Israeli territory. The unmanned aircraft was able to evade a Patriot missile trying to shoot it down and escaped back into the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. The incident came within an area where the nations of Syria, Israel and Jordan all come together. It’s no secret that the Syrian forces are receiving help from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard: a factor that makes incidents such as these all the more dangerous. Earlier this year, the Guard skipped the middle man and launched a drone itself: an act that triggered a fierce air war during which an Israeli fighter jet was shot down – the first plane Israel has lost to enemy fire in three decades. Israel has been maintaining an ongoing campaign against the Syrian military, in particular attacking anything that could be arms or terrorists heading for Iran’s terror proxy, the Lebanon-based Hizbullah. In a related story, Israeli officials are taking new precautions in pursuing its humanitarian Operation Good Neighbor program because of fear that it could provide cover for terrorists to enter the Jewish state. The program was created during the Syrian civil war to provide medical assistance to Syrians injured across the Israeli-Syrian border. Thousands of injured have been treated along the border in field hospitals while severely wounded Syrians are transported to major hospitals inside the country. There are new indications that its enemies are planning to use the guise of needing medical treatment to infiltrate inside the border and carry out terror attacks.
