A Syrian air force jet crashed into a market place in the rebel-held town of Ariha, in the northwest province of Idlib, on Monday killing at least 31 people. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the Syrian civil war, said the aircraft lost power due to mechanical problems. Another 60 people were injured in the attack before the crash occurred. According to an eyewitness report a vegetable market and nearby apartment buildings were destroyed when munitions attached to the plane exploded on the ground. Rescue parties are looking for possible survivors who may be trapped beneath rubble.
