Syrian Rebels Deny Aleppo Chemical Attack

Syrian rebels in Aleppo have been accused of perpetrating a chemical weapons attack after dozens of people were treated for breathing difficulties and blurred vision. The watchdog Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that people became symptomatic when opposition fighters fired two projectiles into the city that are believed to have contained chlorine gas. Aleppo was retaken in 2016 by forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad and despite a truce brokered by Turkey and Russia rebels have intensified their shelling of the city in recent weeks. Last year, a suspected Syrian attack killed about 100 people in the town of Khan Sheikhoun, prompting the United States to fire dozens of tomahawk missiles at regime installations. This was repeated following April’s chemical attack in Douma, also blamed on Assad.
