More than 400,000 people a week are fleeing Syria and the total number of refugees will pass 1 million in less than a month, according to a senior United Nations official. The bulk of the refugees are living in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. The UN says nearly 70,000 people have died in the civil war which began with protests against Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. Donor countries have pledged $1.5 billion to help the refugees but most remains unpaid.
