Syrian ‘White Helmets’ Evacuated Through Israel Leave Jordan For Western Countries

Jordan announced that 279 Syrian rescue workers that were transferred through Israel to the neighboring kingdom in an internationally-celebrated mission have been resettled in the West. The July 22 clandestine operation evacuated 422 members, including relatives, of the White Helmets, a group of first-responders responsible for saving countless civilian lives during the war. They were bused from southern Syria into the Israeli Golan Heights and then escorted by Jordanian security services across the border into the Hashemite Kingdom. Prior to the mission, Britain, Germany and Canada promised to accept the refugees, although it is unclear how many individuals will end up in each country. Amman noted that the rest of the evacuees—along with six newborn children—will be relocated within two weeks.
