Reports from Syria indicate that the latest sources of trouble are the government’s increase in the prices of diesel fuel and bread. On Sunday, the price of bread doubled and diesel fuel tripled – this, following a 25% increase in the cost of petrol last week. The diesel hike is expected to result in transportation spiking about 25%. On Friday, the UN Security Council agreed to extend an aid operation from Turkey to Syria, ensuring access to aid for about 12 million Syrians for a year.
