Taliban Miss In Cheney Assassination Attempt

A spokesman for the Taliban has confirmed that U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney was the target of a suicide bomber that killed 19 people and wounded 11 outside a military base in Afghanistan where Cheney was visiting. A suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the front gate at the Bagram military base. An American military officer originally told reporters that it did not appear that Cheney was the target, saying the VP was safely inside when the blast occurred. But a Taliban spokesman later set the record straight, claiming responsibility for the attack and confirming the group’s intention to kill Cheney.
