Temple Mount Tension High with Holiday Visitors and Attempts at Non-Muslim Prayer

Tension remained high on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount on Wednesday as holiday visitors ascended the holy site in large numbers and several pushed the envelope by attempting forbidden non-Muslim prayer. While Israel guarantees the rights of all to practice their respective religions, a non-Muslim (Christian or Jew) can be arrested for appearing to be praying while on the Temple Mount, known as Haram Al-Sharif by Muslims. On Wednesday, a number of Jewish visitors were removed after singing and dancing on the Mount – in police parlance, “violating rules of visitation.” Meanwhile, Jordan says it will send more than 100 inspectors to monitor happenings on the Temple Mount after Hamas and the Palestinian Authority quashed a plan inspired by the United States to install 55 cameras to allegedly catch Israeli efforts to “upset the status quo” and to “Juda-ize the Temple Mount.”
